"Never worked a day in her life.."

Today I was perusing Google News, and came across this story: Ann Romney Defends her SAHM status

And to quote the controversial subject:
"Hillary Rosen, a Democratic strategist, started the exchange during an interview on CNN yesterday in which she said of Mitt Romney: “Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life.” Rosen said: “She’s never dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of women in this country are facing.”"
That blonde kid is creepy, guess that's why their trying to hide him in the back.
Now, there's all kinds of backlash against this Hillary Rosen woman, but I have to say.  I kind of agree w/ her.  I have been both a SAHM and a working Mom so I feel I can have an opinion on both fronts.  Yes being a SAHM is hard, it's hard for middle class folks who are barely living on their husband's single income.  I haven't done any research on the Romney's because mostly I just don't give a shit, but I have a REALLY HARD time believing she ever had to decide between paying bills, the rent, or buying groceries.  That's what this Hillary person is getting at, at least that's my interpretation of her above quote.

She may be the best SAHM there ever was, but if she's never had to work and pay daycare and help support the family then she can't relate to that, she can't speak to that.  Unless you've lived it, you have no idea.   So what if she has 5 boys?  I have 3 boys and a daughter...does her having 5 kids make her better, did she work harder than I(or any other Mom w/ more or less kids)did?  Did she ever have to bounce a check to pay for a prescription?  Did she ever have to use a Check N Go to pay the rent til the next paycheck came in?  I don't know, maybe they have...but I doubt it.   I'm just saying, that in a way I completely agree w/ Hillary Rosen and I think she should stand behind what she said and not back down and beg for forgiveness w/ her tail between her legs!  I bet you there's not one congressmen/woman that knows what it's really like for 90% of Americans, how we live day to day.   I know I'll get hateful comments for this one, so fire away.

  2. I think I'm missing something here. It sounds like Hillary dumped on Ann stating that she's never worked a day in her life. Ann came back stating that she chose to stay home and raise her 5 boys which was a lot of work. Then Hillary goes on about how Ann doesn't understand the economic issues....
Ok, I'm with Hillary that Ann probably hasn't felt the sting of financial burden during these years but I question, what the heck brought this up in the first place? Why did Hillary start this war on Ann Romney in the first place? Did Ann state something inappropriate to justify Hillary going after her?

  3. Rock it, sista! Seriously...and I will also draw scrutiny, I'm sure - Those people have a BUTT LOAD of money. SAHM or not - she probably didn't lead the typical SAHM life of cleaning, cooking - 5 kid making a mess of what she just cleaned & hubby coming home from work to spaghetti-o's because you're wiped and the house is a wreck because the kids wrecked it 5 more times... I see mani-pedi's a housekeeper, a cook..perhaps a nanny or two. I did both as well and SAHM and working mom or just working woman - tough jobs!! I just talked in circles, but I think you get what I'm saying :)

  4. AS a mom who is raising two boys and working two jobs to make ends meet I have a hard time with this one. I work my ass off. I am a lunch lady by day and a waitress three nights a week. I get up at 5 am everyday to drive my hubby to work before my day even starts. I help with homework, take them to CCD, baseball or whatever sport they are on now, host playdates, do laundry, cook, grocery shop and all the other crap that happens in daily life. ANd it is hard. I have several SAHM friends who go to lunch every day and play on pinterest in between. I feel no pity for SAHM's, I would love to have the chance and hate hearing how hard it is. Trust me, there are harder things out there.

    1. Thank you, EXACTLY what I was talking about. I can tell you when I was a SAHM I had a lot to do everyday, and yes it was work. Now I'm working again, and continue to do all the things I did when I was home. Some days I'd love to just be home long enough to eat that peanut butter and jelly sandwich that nobody wanted.
